Low Stools for the Home
By Adrian Higgins, 17th July, 2011
In recent years, we have observed an increase in the popularity of low stools for the home. These items represent a great range of furniture that provides the style and glamour, but sits at a lower height (approx 45cm), making them the perfect accompaniment to dining tables, desks and coffee tables. The emergence of low stools has been due to popular demand, and can be largely attributed to the advent of open living, with large, interconnected rooms that serve a multitude of purposes. Having an open space necessitates matching styles for different areas around the home, and so low stools are commonly regarded as an ideal addition to any set of bar stools.
Designs like the Deluxe Brushed High Back give a uniform look to an interior, as they can be used at full height at a breakfast bar or kitchen counter, then at their lowest height around the dining room table.
Another reason why low stools are becoming more popular is due to contemporary kitchen design, where different height worktops are becoming the norm. Often, the kitchen counter has a lowered "table" section in addition to the usual worktop, a designated bar area where people can sit for breakfast or a few evening drinks. This has necessitated the use of low stools, as normal bar stools can often prove to be too tall to use in such circumstances.
Although they are designed with such purpose in mind, they can also be used in a number of places around the home. Many people prefer using a low stool to a chair as they often rotate, and like the Macy Stool Chair, may even employ a variable height gas lift mechanism. This creates a much more dynamic seating layout.
They are very effective as work station chairs, making it easy to access the immediate area, and can also be used in bedrooms as gaming chairs or at a dressing table. Utilised as occasional seating, low stools like the Bullet deliver both style and substance. The round base on such items is often a desirable characteristic, with the chrome plated conical style giving a retro touch that really catches the eye.
And now, low stools are available in the form of bar stools with wheels. Designs such as the Rochelle Office Chair implement the 5 spoke base and nylon casters that are a distinguishing feature of office chairs, allowing easy movement over any type of flooring. Much more stylish than utilitarian office equipment, such designs are very desirable and can transform your home office into a welcoming environment.
Treat yourself to some low stools for your home and you may just be surprised by just how versatile these items are. Proving that sometimes, big things really do come in small packages, these stunning items are set to impress.
